History -

Tecate is the Eastern end of the Ferrocarril de Tijuana Y Tecate, as the SD&AE is known while South of the border. An enormous quantity of Tecate beer must have been sold at the brewery next door waiting in the heat for the daily train. Air conditioning? What air conditioning!

Tecate's depot, one of several in Mexico, is two-story wood frame building painted yellow with brown trim, and was constructed by the SD&A about 1914. The depot was in use throughout that line's life, handling freight long after passenger service was discontinued.

The Prototype -

This very interesting building is located trackside, South of the Tecate brewery, approximately two blocks west and two blocks South of the main plaza in downtown Tecate. The station is still in excellent shape as if awaiting the arrival of the next train through Tecate. In fact, excursion trains from the San Diego Railroad Museum regularly stop at the Tecate depot today.

Building the model -

The Tecate station is planned, along with as much of the brewery complex as can be fit in the allocated space. No estimate for completion is available. Right now, track passes over bare plywood.

This section is under construction, awaiting completion of structures.
